Community-Centric GovTech with Paul Gosselin

In the fast-growing landscape of government technology, where innovation meets bureaucracy, some individuals stand out as catalysts for change. When Paul Gosselin, Avolve’s Regional Sales Director for the West, joined Avolve six and a half years ago from the private sector, it was the uncharted territory of GovTech that attracted him.

"It was very green and still an up-and-coming product and industry," he says. “I jumped on board to help try to accelerate the growth and adoption of digital technology in the government space.”

Having spent most of his career in the private sector, Paul found the transition to GovTech invigorating. The community emphasis, not only of Avolve, but of partner jurisdictions inspired him. “Folks that are working at the government, their whole thought process is ‘how do I better my community?’ — which I’ve loved, because in the private sector it’s more ‘how do I better my career?’”

He has also welcomed the opportunity to work side-by-side with changemakers in jurisdictions, where, he noted, a foray into the digital realm can be a bit of a renegade move. “You've got this one person that's like, 'Hey, why don't we put all our stuff online?’” Paul said. “What I really love is to find those champions, work alongside them to create a shared vision, and then work to bring it to fruition.”

In his role as Regional Sales Director for the West, Paul manages a team dedicated to driving revenue and customer satisfaction. But his role extends beyond management, and he actively participates in analyzing deals, forecasting, and is always ready to roll his sleeves up to help close a deal — much like everyone else at the organization.

Paul praises this shared accountability ethos at Avolve. Whether working on RFPs or assisting with implementations, the company's collective effort is felt far and wide. Paul credits this collaborative spirit as a key factor in the company's success, emphasizing the willingness of individuals at all levels to support each other. “Even at the everyday level, when, as a sales group, we’re trying to win opportunities through RFPs, we're leveraging a lot of cross-departmental folks that could just say ‘not my job, not my role,’ but instead they jump in to help,” he said. “That’s one of the main reasons I really appreciate being on the team at Avolve — everyone is always on board to help one another out.”

For Paul, the ability to see tangible results, effect change, and contribute to the company's growth has made his six-and-a-half years at Avolve a fulfilling journey. He takes pride in being part of a dynamic organization where accountability and growth go hand in hand and wouldn’t trade the community-centric work of GovTech for any other industry. “It feels really nice to be able to see and feel our impact.”
